The holidays are right around the corner! This means lots of time with family and friends, maybe some travel, certainly some colder temperatures and winter conditions, and definitely lots and lots of food! With all of that going on, it can be hard to stay fit during the holidays. But Zip Fitness has a few suggestions on how you can keep yourself on track during this season.
Holiday meals can be some of the most delicious food, but it can also the most fattening. Loads of butter and sugar can slowly add up. Keep in mind one mantra while you are at the dining room table – everything in moderation. It’s true! You don’t have to eat the whole pie! One slice will taste (and feel) just as good. And you will thank yourself later.
Getting the proper amount of rest is also very important for you to stay happy and healthy this season. We know you want to stay up to ring in the New Year. That’s fine! Just don’t do it every night. Adults need at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night. If you get that amount of sleep in, you will wake up feeling energized and recharged and ready to take on your workout.
Which brings up to our next point, the holidays are a great time to try something new. Whether you are traveling or have family visiting you, this is the perfect excuse to bring your cousin along to that yoga class you’ve always wanted to try or that spin class you’ve been hearing about. (Also, yoga is a great way to beat all the stress from last minute shopping or family nitpicking)
Another way to keep the pounds away this season is by working out consistently. In one of our latest blog posts, we talked about a study at the University of Michigan that found people who consistently worked out during periods of heavy calorie intake were less likely to gain weight. It doesn’t take a lot. All you had to do is take a 30-minute walk or lift weights for 25 minutes. Heck, shoveling snow can be a workout! But whatever you decide to do, stay consistent. A workout calendar can help, especially if you are busy running from house to house for all the festivities.
